About Santa Maria Kennel Club

The Santa Maria Kennel Club was established over 50 years ago by Dr. William Houpt. The club started with a group of individuals interested in the advancement and enjoyment of the purebred dog. The SMKC later became a member club of the AKC and was authorized to conduct AKC All-Breed dog shows as well as All-Breed Obedience trials.

Since then, the club has expanded to conduct AKC-sponsored All-Breed Agility and Scent Work trials. Our membership regularly competes in Conformation, Obedience, Rally, Agility, Herding, Field Trials, Hunt Tests, and all other types of events that the AKC recognizes. We are a diversified group who continue the traditions of the founding group and are proud to do so.
